About Us

Cultivating tradition, community, and growth.

Becker Farms & Vizcarra Vineyards is a fifth-generation family-owned working fruit and vegetable farm that covers 340 acres of land.

For the last 130 years, Becker Farms has been harvesting its own fruits and vegetables to offer fresh produce. They also provide a wide variety of value-added products like handmade pies, jams, cookies, cider, fudge, and wines.

Our Story

Julius Becker immigrated from Germany to America, married Augusta Dettbarn, and acquired a 100-acre farm in Gasport in 1894. The house where he lived still exists and now functions as a store that sells produce, baked goods, jams, jellies, and other items. The farm, which now spans 340 acres, offers both U-PICK and pre-picked fruits, vegetables, grapes, a large children's area with farm animals, a winery, a brew house, and two event spaces for weddings and other events.

After Julius and Augusta Becker, the farm was passed down to son Frank Becker and his wife, Amanda, who had two daughters. One of the daughters, Joyce Becker, married Donald Perry, and they ran the farm part-time while Perry also worked at Harrison Radiator. The farm was traditionally run, with sour cherries as the primary crop.

In the 1970s, daughter Melinda ("Mindy") went to college to study agriculture, and family farms were in decline. Mindy met Oscar Vizcarra, a native of Peru, while at Delhi and Cornell University, and the two married and came to Gasport to take over the farm. They introduced new ideas to the farm and responded to customers' needs. The old house was converted into a market that sold picked fruit, ice cream, cider, and other farm-produced products. School tours, hayrides, and an annual Pumpkin Fiesta were added, and the business began to thrive.

The Vizcarras established Vizcarra Vineyards when the laws regarding farm winemaking changed in New York state. The winery allowed the Vizcarras to use fruit that was not sold directly to consumers, reducing waste. Grapes were planted to allow the Vizcarras to offer more traditional types of wine and beers brewed here at the farm.

Today, the Vizcarra children continue the legacy of excellence and community support alongside their parents, keeping the farm's spirit of innovation and dedication alive to pass down to the next generation. The story of Becker Farms and Vizcarra Family Vineyards is a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and the importance of adapting to change.
